Netflix’s newest original series, Blood Brothers, explores the friendship between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. The trailer for the show was released on Wednesday, May 16th, 2019.

Blood Brothers is a Netflix original film that explores the friendship and fallout between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. The trailer shows two friends who are polar opposites in many ways, but they share similar values of justice and equality.

Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali is a pre-production image for Netflix’s forthcoming documentary Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali, and the trailer for the tale of the relationship between two of the most famous and significant individuals in Black American history has just been published. The special combines archive footage with interviews with the pair’s family and friends and explores the first meeting of brash boxing legend Ali and Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam’s most well-known leader, as well as how their relationship developed and how, over time, they went from being friends to parting ways due to their shifting ideals.

Through their loud demands for Black liberation in America, the two men were pulled together by their political beliefs and religion, as shown in the trailer. Despite their initial connection via their Islamic conversion, their different views would eventually cause them to turn their backs on each other after three years of being like brothers. “They define a whole generation to be themselves and be brave,” racial rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is heard saying in the trailer, and many would agree with that statement.

Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali’s official synopsis reads: “Blood Brothers chronicles the extraordinary and ultimately tragic friendship of two of the twentieth century’s most iconic figures: Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all time, and Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam’s – and black America’s – most incendiary and charismatic leader. The brazen Olympic Champion who talked in poetry to the delight of the white press and the ex-con intellectual-turned-revolutionary who raged against the ills of white tyranny and regarded athletics as a frivolity became the unlikeliest of friendships. But their relationship was genuine, and their connection was strong.”
